Meet Lucky – Rencontre Lucky

IMG_0400

We stayed at a tree house one hour and 30 minutes away from Chang Mai, Thailand, in a tiny village.

Lucky has a rainbow smile and it well describes her soul. Constantly smiling she is the one who taught us to make elephants in clay. We could think that her broke english would be a barrier to communicate, but she was really curious to learn new words and to teach us Thai words too, therefore we never stopped talking. It is funny how some people stick in your mind. I think about her every week. She reminded me that we all are forever kids at heart. Everything can be exciting and interesting. If we remain curious and listen to what people say, we can learn tremendously.

Lucky works as, what we could call , a manager or a concierge. Her family lives in the tiny village, just a couple miles away from the tree house, where she grew up. She was really ambivalent, so she also cooked us some yummy food with her sister who was the main cooker. This is mango soup, and was certainly one of the best meals we had.

Pretty small body but huge soul, Lucky never left Thailand but dreams to.

There was a funeral by the tree house. She explained to us that the ceremony goes on for four days and that the monk decides when to burry the person. It is the same for everyone, every death is celebrated. In order to respect their privacy I did not take pictures but the ceremony was pretty magical. It was colorful, people were singing, smiling and wearing traditional outfits. It is such a tiny village that everyone was there, maybe 100 people, coming together to elevate that person’s soul.

I bought a pen from the tree house and every time I use it, I think: Genuine kindness. That’s all.
